PreK Counts

What:     Riverview Childrens Center (RCC) will offer FREE five hour, morning pre-kindergarten (PreK Counts) classes at Verner Elementary School and both three hour and five hour morning pre-school and pre-kindergarten (PreK Counts) classes at our site on Sylvan Way, Verona.

Who:      The Verner class is open to all children who turn four by September 1st and reside in the Riverview School District (RSD), who meet family income guidelines. Openings are limited; advance registration is required. Priority for RCC at Verner PreK Counts will be given to children who reside in RSD and with family income at/or below 300% of the poverty level.

Classes at RCCs Sylvan Way site are open to all children who meet the age requirements; pricing will be according to the school district in which the child resides. In the event that the programs fill, families may join the waitlist (which moves rather quickly.)

Why:       An increase in state funding for PreK education allows RCC to collaborate with RSD and Redeemer Lutheran School. to expand its PreK programs to include PreK Counts. Research shows that pre-kindergarten instruction benefits students and communities.  Children who attend high-quality PreK programs come to school more prepared and achieve greater educational success, including less absenteeism, higher standardized test scores and higher graduation rates.

Where:  The Pre-K Counts Classes will be offered at Verner Elementary School on First Street in Verona and Sylvan Way site. RCC will also continue to offer a variety of PreK programs at its Sylvan Way location, including Wraparound services before and after class and summer programming.
